Plumbing upgrade means hot water for the van!

Kevin Brenden · November 9, 2020 · Leave a Comment

Hot and cold water will enable campers to take a shower while on the road.

This summer I added a Bosch Tronic 3000 T4 water heater. This unit runs on ac power and plugs into a regular outlet. The heater is plug and play, inexpensive, small and easy to install. The only caveat is it requires 1500 watts of available electricity. This was one of the main reasons for building such an “amped” up electrical system. In order to produce and store this much electricity required another Battleborn LiPo4 battery. I now have 300 amp hours of battery power, enough to satisfy the needs of an induction cooktop and this water heater. Four gallons of hot water is plenty for a shower, or doing the evening dishes.

Luckily there was just enough room in the mechanical room

In order to take a shower, a pop-up privacy shelter can be placed anywhere near the van. I purchased hot-cold faucet and quick connect hose from amazon. The hose and spray nozzle also works as an excellent bike wash station.
